What helicopters are used for 21.03.2019

The helicopter is a unique vehicle. Its area of use is extremely wide. It is much more functional than a plane, although it cannot reach the same high speeds. Helicopters’ main advantage is that they do not require a special long concrete strip for take-off and landing; in fact, they require a rather small area. In addition, the aircraft may be able to land in the open field, on the roof of a house or in the mountains. It only needs a flat piece of land or asphalt. If there are flotation landing gear or skids, helicopters can land on water or snowdrifts.

Helicopters can fly anywhere, which makes them very popular. Unlike a car, they do not get stuck in traffic jams; they must not go around lakes, mountains and other obstacles, i.e., they take the fastest route and at a rather high speed, which averages 230-280 km/h. What are helicopters used for?

Civil transportation

Helicopters are used to transport passengers where planes do not fly, for example, for short distances between two cities located close to each other. This type of transport is especially important in the northern regions: when roads freeze or are covered with snow, car traffic stops; the only way to travel is by helicopter. There are regular helicopter flights around the world, as well as an “air taxi”, which operates on-demand.

Tourism is also an area where helicopters are in high demand. This is the delivery of passengers to islands, to mountains – to places where it is difficult or impossible to get by car. Air tours are also popular: the opportunity to admire beautiful views from a great height attracts many travelers. Helicopters are also used for holidays on board and other entertainment.

Medical helicopter assistance is also included in civil traffic. This is emergency transport: when rescue operations are performed during natural disasters, terrorist attacks and other serious situations. The aircraft allows the victims to be quickly taken on board and delivered to the treatment point. In addition, helicopters can be chartered in advance for the transportation of patients. Specially equipped interiors allow patients in the most serious condition to be transported without harm to their health.

The delivery of civil shipments, mail and personal items is also included in the area of civil air traffic. The aircraft may transport various types of cargo, both in the cabin and as an external load.

The use of helicopters for the aviation development is also part of civil traffic. Training and test flights, parachute jumps and other aeroclub events, demonstration of helicopters, checks by aeronautical services – these are just some of the applications.

Finally, helicopters are often purchased for personal use, i. e., personal travel. They can be bought by pilots and by wealthy persons who employ pilots. The same applies to corporate transport; it is owned by the organisation and used to transport employees to distant facilities.

Warfare

In the warfare, special helicopters – both military and medical – are used. Aircraft can attack objects located on land and on water. They are equipped with missiles, machine guns, torpedoes and other weapons systems used to destroy targets from a long distance.

Medical aircraft take the wounded from the battlefield and carry out search and rescue operations. Military helicopters are also used in peacetime to protect borders or patrol territories.

Aerial work

The widest application area of helicopters is aerial work. They are indispensable in the oil industry. Ships deliver staff and materials to offshore drilling sites and other plants.

Helicopters are actively used by security forces. Police aircraft allow to a territory to be controlled and far away destinations to be quickly reached.

Helicopters are also widely used in the television and film industry. Filming is often conducted from on board. Radio and television stations rent aircraft to film news stories and important events. They instantly arrive on the scene, allowing events to be quickly recorded. Moreover, modern equipment allows direct reporting during the flight.

Since helicopters can lift large loads, they are actively used in construction. Aircrafts are able to deliver materials and sometimes install them on desired facilities. Helicopters are involved in the construction of skyscrapers and towers, communication and relay stations, bridges and assembly halls. Sometimes they are used for promotions, creating signal lines in the sky and even distributing flyers.

In agriculture, helicopters are used to spray pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers, help fight pests and animals and even sow seeds. They are indispensable for forest fires, if they have special equipment on board that dumps water or other means of slowing down combustion.

Helicopters are necessary for scientific activity. They help to conduct various types of studies: geological, forestry, aquatic, agricultural and even archaeological. They help study wild animals, supervise pipelines and power lines, monitor the situation on roads and at borders.

Helicopter operations help create topographic maps, make television broadcasts, search for minerals, explore unpopulated areas, monitor animals and birds, transfer fry to rivers, protect water and terrestrial resources, patrol important facilities and study space radiation.

Helicopters are widely used throughout the world, at a variety of facilities. If you wish to rent an aircraft for any of the purposes described above, contact AVIAV TM (Cofrance SARL). You will be provided with the necessary model, which will be perfectly suitable for your desired purpose!
